Friday
June 22nd the Central Illinois Division of Fishers of
Men held their pre-tournament meeting at the Weldon Village Hall
with another great meal. Italian beef
was the main course with pasta salad, baked beans, and hash
brown casserole on the side. For dessert were brownies and
cookies. After dinner the director Carl Parks gave the message
from the word of God (The Bible) on how we should be prepared for
the promise of being a Christian (Trials, Temptation, and
Persecution) and how we should battle the enemy. 1 Peter Chapter
4:12-18 tells us not to be surprised when we suffer but rejoice
because we are blessed. Amen! Carl also showed us how he learned
spiritual warfare from the scriptures and how to stand firm
against the evil one. James Chapter 4:7-8, John 10:10, 1 Peter
5:8-9, and Ephesians 6:10 were all read and it was a very powerful
message on how we should be self controlled and alert and to put
on the full armor of God because the devil wants what we have.
Afterward one person gave their life to Christ and four people
rededicated their lives to the Lord. Thank you Jesus!
Saturday
morning at safe light eighteen teams set out in hopes of bringing
back the winning weight of Bass. The air temperatures were in the
upper sixties Saturday morning and got up in the high seventies by
the afternoon. The skies were cloudy and the winds were breezy
which made for near perfect fishing conditions. With the 3:00 PM
weigh-in just thirty minutes away the weather decided it would try
to postpone our festivities by dumping 2-3 inches of rain on us.
We tried to wait it out but it never stopped raining the rest of
the afternoon. We decided to start weighing them in and team after
team came to the scales with fish, in fact all eighteen teams had
at least three bass. There were in total ten five fish limits
caught. When the scales were officially closed it was the team of
Kevin Cupp of Mansfield and Brent Sporleder from Fisher who had
the heaviest bag of fish weighing 15.93 lbs and also the Big Bass
of the tournament with a Largemouth the weighed 4.85 lbs. earning
them $1,194.00 in prize money. In Second place was the team of Tim
Potts of Clinton and Justin Williams from Wapella with a limit
that weighed 15.54 lbs earning themselves $606.00.Third place was
the team of Bryan Williams from Mahomet and Michael Sanders from
Monticello with five fish that weighed 14.23 lbs. giving them
$328.00 in prize money. Fourth place was the team of Terry Potts
and Ian Estes with a limit weighing 13.61 lbs. Fifth place was the
team of Travis Boley and John Mckinney with five fish that weighed
in at 12.01 lbs. Sixth place was the team of
Steve Riddle and Clint Seaman with five bass weighing 11.40
lbs. Seventh place was the husband and wife team of Marlan and
