Pro Tips

"Choosing the right Rod"
With so many different rods on the market it’s difficult to choose the right one.  I prefer Kistler rods because I believe the engineering, quality, and sensitivity of their rods are second to none.
"Color's and Dyes... When to use them"
I’m frequently asked by other anglers if I use colors and dyes on my baits.  My answer is a definite yes.  I feel at times it can make a real difference when the fish are pressured.
"Drop Shotting"
Much like the Carolina rig, a drop shot rig is a finesse fishing technique. The main advantage of using a drop shot rig is the versatility. A drop shot can be used in shallow water, mid-range water, or deep water.
"First Aid for the Outdoors"
To combat hypothermia, always carry a towel and a spare change of clothes in the boat when fishing in cold weather.  If you ever fall in, or have to get out and push, you’ll be darn glad you left the house prepared.
"Fishing Boat Docks "
Much like standing timber or stumps, boat docks are fish magnets! Docks offer many different types of structure.  They are situated in deep or shallow water, and might float or have piers. There are so many options that it’s hard to know where to start.
"Fishing Currents and Streams"
Just remember anytime there’s current, there will be fish hanging around. I’ve seen fish relate to current in water temperatures as cold as 45 degrees. Key point - warm water temperatures don’t have to exist in order to catch fish in a current situation.
"Fishing in a crowd"
Fishing around other people presents a lot of unique situations. When fishing in a crowd, or in a very popular spot, I try to fish differently then the anglers around me.
"Fishing Stumps and Lay-downs"
Stumps and lay-downs are unique structures found in both shallow and deep water. Fish are drawn to structure like a magnet, so whether anglers target stumps or lay-downs, in shallow or deep water, the fish will usually be there.
"Fishing Vegetation "
I always search out vegetation first when I’m fishing in the spring, summer, or fall.  I target these areas because vegetation growth produces a lot of oxygen, which the fish relate to. I mainly look for hydrilla mattes, lily pads, and bank grass.
