"Fishing Currents and Streams "

Just remember anytime there’s current, there will be fish hanging around. I’ve seen fish relate to current in water temperatures as cold as 45 degrees. Key point - warm water temperatures don’t have to exist in order to catch fish in a current situation.

Look for ambush places such as eddies or wing walls on a river system where the current is broken. Structures such as these cause the water to whip around the end and produce a reverse flow. This allows the bass to be lazy and sit and wait for prey to wash through.  Find a pattern that works then search out other areas on the river that fish are relating to.  Look for lay downs or the tip of a wing wall, which is breaking the current.

Another very important aspect of fishing current is to always make sure the boat is pointed upstream, and that all casts are made upstream. When retrieving the bait the flow of the river will mimic the natural drifting of “bait fish”. Bass are accustomed to receiving their prey this way– don’t fight the natural flow.
