. I
can’t stress how important bait presentation and accuracy is when
fishing. Making half
hearted casts that cause a big splash will spook fish.
A quiet lure presentation and an accurate cast is an absolute
must when tournament fishing. Control
is not created overnight, and putting the bait where you want it to go
takes practice. The
only way to improve casting skills is to practice. Setup a few targets
and spend a couple hours a week dropping the bait very quietly into a
coffee can or piece of plastic pipe.
Make sure the targets are spaced at different lengths so you
can quickly learn to judge distance.
Also setup overhead targets in order to practice a lower
profile presentation. In
my opinion a wasted cast is wasted time, so it’s worth the time and
effort to be able to pitch and flip with both hands.
It’s also important to be able to cast with several different
methods including overhand, and roll casting.
If you’re up for a challenge also try practicing with
different rod lengths, and always use a quality reel that has spool
adjusting capabilities. If
practicing with a spinning rod, change-up line sizes as well. I
promise practice makes perfect, and an accurate cast will catch more
fish. |
