The
duo of Adam Buss and Jason Strebel took top honors at the Lake
Shawano Gambler Lures Open on August 18, 2007. This no-entry-fee
open tournament was the first one of its kind ever held in
Wisconsin
. A total of 84 teams competed for a $1000 first place prize while
exclusively using Gambler Lures during competition. Buss and
Strebel assembled their five-bass, 14.14-pound limit by casting
3/8 ounce black and blue Ninja Jigs tipped with BB Crickets to
deep weedlines. Their creel also included big bass of the
tournament, a 4.64-pound kicker, worth an additional $660.
Placing
a close second was the team of Darren Luterbach and Robin Mill
with 14.10 pounds. In the morning, they tossed lighter shades of
the Gambler Ace to shallow cover. When overcast skies and light
rain became prevalent in the afternoon, they adjusted to the
changing conditions by selecting darker colors of the Ace. For
their efforts, Luterbach and Mill won $500.
In
third place were Allan Meckalski and Josh Garber. Although the
team had never fished the lake prior to the event, Meckalski and
Garber found the Shawano bass ready to annihilate Gambler Cane
Toads thrown into Shawano’s abundant cane beds. Their limit
weighed 13.90 pounds and was worth $250.
The
Cane Toad was also a key lure for the fourth place team of Dennis
and Jamie Clark. Their 13.58-pound limit of largemouth bass was
also good for top honors in the youth division. In total, the
Clarks
won $500.
Joe
Fisher and Mike Crimins rounded out the top five with 12.88
pounds. They probed deep weedlines with Gambler Tubes and Ninja
Jigs. They were rewarded with a fifth-place prize of $250.
