Wisconsin Bass Federation

Tomsovic “In the Zone” on the River!
Mississippi River Pool 8, June 1-3, 2007, by Danny Mancini

The Wisconsin State Bass Federation, Zone 4 event was held on the Mississippi River pools 8 and 9 June 1 – 3, 2007.

With Friday being the only official practice day after the week long “off limits” period, the competitors prepared to take off at 6:00am on Saturday despite the windy conditions and the potential for severe rain storms.

The river was in average condition for early June with a steady current flow and a stage of 5.86ft. Many main channel and backwater areas were muddied slightly with the cleaner water to be found around dense vegetation.

Jim Tomsovic, of Sparta Wisconsin , led the tournament on both days of competition. Jim secured his tournament winning weight of 29.865lbs by pitching jigs and dragging Carolina rigged tubes along main river rock.

Tom Tischer, of LaCrosse Wisconsin , utilized a similar pattern to secure a second place finish with a weight of 28.065lbs

Third place went to Scott Alo, of Onalaska Wisconsin . Scott Pitched Jigs to the cover to secure a third place finish with a weight of 27.410lbs

The fourth place weight belonged to Jesse Kasera of Sparta Wisconsin . Jesse caught his fish by pitching tubes and jigs.

In fifth place with 25.595lbs was Danny Mancini of Necedah Wisconsin . Danny caught his fish by pitching “Snack-Daddy” tubes and Snack sticks to backwater weed edges and rock.

The Day one Big Bass Award went to Chad Richardson with a 3.88lb Largemouth Bass.

Day two Big Bass was awarded to Dick Wilson with a 4.345lb Largemouth.
