ABA District 108 Tournament Trail

Chad Powers TAKES THE WIN!
Mississippi River pool 19, July 29, 30, 2006, by Ken Warren

From L to R: 3rd, Mike Waddell; 1st, Chad Powers; 2nd, Scott Seager; BB, Dave Knutstrom.

These past two days have been some of the hottest in a long time but the day was made tolerable by the steady breeze that we had. While the bite seemed to have changed somewhat from the previous weeks there were still good sacks brought in by several anglers. The water temp was in the mid 80's and the air temp peaked in the upper 90's both days and there was little cloud cover.

Maquoketa angler, Chad Powers claimed the first place spot with 2 limits of largemouth weighing 27.01lbs. All of his fish were caught in the lily pads with a Zoom horny toad in the lower part of the pool and for the most part was a mid day bite. Chad is sponsored by J D Byrider and Power Graphics.

The second place prize went to local angler Scott Seager with a 2 day total of 25.71lbs. These fish were found in the grass and were taken mostly on various plastic baits and a couple on a Chatterbait. He also found a couple in the lilypads as Powers did. Seager's strong finish also allowed him to claim Angler-of-the-Year for this district and he took home a $200 gift certificate from Farm King for his efforts this year in addition to his winnings in this tournament.

In third place was another local angler, Mike Waddell with 22.34lbs. His fish were caught in vegetation with a black and chartreuse salt craw and it did not seem to matter if it was lily pads or grass.

Big bass of the event went to Dave Knutstrom and he claimed the prize of a $50 gift certificate to Farm King as well as the day 1 big bass pot. Day 2 pot went to Tom Thomas.
