ABA District 73 Tournament Trail

RYAN CHRISTOPHER TAKES THE WIN!
Mississippi River pool 13, April 22, 2006, by Ken Warren

Water temp-5
6-62 degrees
Sky- partly cloudy
Wind- 10-20

The East Iowa district of the American Bass Anglers, held the third event of the 2006 season April 22, 2006 on pool 13 of the Mississippi River. The day started with mild temperatures and partly cloudy skies, but as the day went on anglers had to battle the steadily increasing wind. The water temperature ranged from mid-50 to lower-60 depending on the area, the water clarity was surprisingly good for the high water levels, which were on a steady drop all day long. Some anglers report a drop of as much as a foot, to a foot and a half throughout the fishing day. So this set the stage for a very challenging day of fishing, most anglers reported bites were very hard to come by.

First place was claimed by Ryan Christoffer, of Waterloo, IA. Ryan decided to try to get away form all the tournament pressure that was placed on pool 13 Saturday, with three tournaments running simultaneously. He locked up to Pool 12 and spent the day flipping a black and blue jig to steep banks, with no current, a good hard bottom, and good water clarity in the lower end of the pool. At the end of the day Ryan managed to get a limit of nice keepers weighing 12.96lbs. Ryan is a Secret Weapon special ops participant, which earns him a new tackle pack.

Second place went to Paul DiBona of Fox River Grove, IL. Paul boated an impressive 9.70lbs with only 3 fish. Paul was fairly tightlipped on his techniques and locations, other than he stayed on Pool 13, and his fish did not start biting until late in the day.

Third place went to Derek Meier of Bellevue, IA. Derek used his local knowledge to land 4 nice largemouths for a total of 8.60lbs.

Big Bass was taken by Rocco Marrari of Davenport, IA. Rocco landed a beautiful 4.38lbs largemouth, to win him the big bass of the tournament. Rocco has Anglers Advantage Insurance, which earns him an extra $100. Anglers Advantage Insurance big bass contest is open to any boater who is currently insured by them and wears the A.A.I P. patch.
