U.S. Angler's Choice Glacier Lake Division

Zvorak and Larson TAKE OKOBOJI!
Okoboji, May 6, 2007,
By Dave Cindrich

Conditions:
Air temp, 45 degrees  in the morning, warming to 75 degrees
Wind speed 25 to 45 MPH straight line winds
Passing thunder showers in the morning, wind blew and blew all day!!!!!

The wind blew like mad on Lake Okoboji .  Main lake fishing very tough for most anglers. The wind pushed about half the field into the lakes extensive channel system. For a few of the teams that  took on the wind with the tough weather conditions, it paid off.

Zvorak / Larson  Take the Win!!
Zvorak and Larson show up big with a beautiful bag of mixed bass.  Four large mouth and one small mouth.  The team also took big bass honors with a whopping 6.25 lb large mouth.

When asked if their pre-fishing went as planned, the team stated yes and no.  They said once the wind started blowing and water turned brown the fishing got very tough.  The team started fishing the main lake.  The team stated they fished a jig.  The team had a slow period from about 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.  The big fish of the day came from a dock while fishing behind another team.

Schwerzler / Kroone 2nd place finish.
The teams pre-fishing plans was Schwerzler fish the tournament on Lake Okoboji the week before.  The team didn’t return to the lake until the day of the tournament.  The team used what they called their normal bait.  They threw jigs under docks and let them sit, then they just shake the rod and let it sit, pick it up and there would be the fish.  Black and blue jigs and some brown jigs were the colors of choice.  The team caught their fish first thing in the morning and had their limit by 11:00am on the main lake.

Taylor / Taylor 3rd place finish.
The wind affected this teams pre-fishing plans by only allowing them to fish 2 of their 10 areas.  The team was fishing main lake flats.  The team used crank baits exclusively throughout the day.  The team definitely brought in the nicest and only 5 fish limit of small mouths.  Taylor and Taylor’s 3rd place finish was definitely deserved, fishing main lake flats in the wind for the small mouths.

The next U.S. Angler’s Choice Glacier Lake division tournaments dates are: 6/16/2007 Koronis and 6/17/2007 Green(spicer)
