Nagawicka
Lake
is notorious for
producing small fish and low weights for tournaments but a few
teams managed to scrape together a limit of respectable largemouth
and smallmouth bass. Many
teams reported that the fish were biting much better the week
leading up to tournament day.
One factor that may have contributed to the tough fishing
was the lack of wind and high skies that often leads to a slow
bite.
The
first place team of Mark and Gene Henricks thought the conditions
were just fine as they were able to secure a solid six fish limit
weighing 13.78 lbs. They reported catching fish throughout the day
at all depth levels from shallow water out to the deep weedlines.
The majority of their fish were caught on a jig and they
said that the key to their success was covering lots of water.
Mark and Gene won $1300 for their 1st place
finish. Congratulations on a great win!
Taking
second place was the always dangerous team of Hans Juech and Ryan
Chuckle. Their mixed
bag of smallmouth and largemouth weighed 13.14 lbs and won them
$960. They caught fish
early on topwaters and reported having five legal fish swimming in
their livewell by 9:00 AM. Hans
also reported catching fish on swimbaits and jigs.
By downsizing their baits and fishing deeper they were able
to fill out their limit in the afternoon.
They would like to thank Hans’ Roofing and Siding for
their sponsorship. Great
job guys!
In
third place was the team of Bob Bartelt and Al Freiherr.
They brought six fish to the scales weighing 12.16 lbs.
Included in their limit was a 4.56 lb. Nagawicka Giant
which was the big bass of the tournament.
Bob and Al reported that they caught their fish in the
afternoon on a variety of baits and they focused their efforts on
deep water. They
earned $760 for their 3rd place finish and an
additional $520 for the big bass award.
Congratulations on a great day of fishing!
