MN West Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail

JASON BERG
AND BRAD CLINE TAKE THE WIN!
Mississippi River pool 4, April 22, 2006, by Mark Schutz

Water temp-52-58 degrees
Sky- overcast turning partly cloudy
Wind- calm

1st Place Jason Berg and Brad Cline

1st place – Jason Berg and Brad Cline – 16.2lbs, 4 smallmouths, 1 largemouth.  Smallies were caught on Green pumpkin All-Terrain creature baits.  Largemouth caught on All-Terrain 3/8 ounce proto-type spinnerbait.  Smallmouth were in 4 -8 ft of water.  Largemouth was in really shallow water.  The team commented that the key to the win was focusing on smallmouth that were staging to spawn.  Jason and Brad agree that cold water is the key to having this pattern be successful. Once the water warms up the big smallmouth scatter onto the shallow flats to begin their spawning cycle. The trick is to find the staging areas which both agreed can be very difficult because of the vast amount of water.   After the tournament both Jason and Brad commented on how they really enjoy fishing Fishers of Men tournaments because the people who fish the events are really nice for the most part and it is not as stressful as some other circuits.  Jason will be fishing the Stren Series and Fishers of Men circuit for 2006.  Brad will be fishing the Silverado Pro-Ams and Fishers of Men for 2006.  Jason and Brad want to thank- All-Terrain tackle, G-loomis rods, and Ranger boats.

2nd- Karin Savik and Howie Lee – 15.9lbs- 2 smallies and 3 largemouth.  Smallies caught on a Carolina rig and largemouth caught on a homemade “Howie Lee” jig. 5/16 ounce. Karen Savik is an FLW touring pro and is sponsored by Land O Lakes.  Howie Lee is sponsored by Friendly Chevrolet.

3rd- Ted and Dean Capra- 15.8lbs – 5 smallies.  Fish were caught in 4-8 ft.  Baits were not disclosed.  Capra’s wants to “thank” – Northland tackle and Rapala lures for the high finish.

PLEASE VISIT MN FISHERS OF MEN FOR COMPLETE RESULTS, STANDINGS AND UPCOMING EVENTS.
