4 Lakes Bassmaster’s Open

Brandon Clemons and Guy Thistle Take Top Honors!
Lake Wisconsin, June 3, 2006, by Darin Roddick-Small

Air Temperature: 78 degrees
Water Temperature: 72 degrees
Water Clarity: Stained
Skies: Sunny
Wind: 5-15 mph from the NE

The weather has been stable for the better part of three days and so have the water conditions. The fish are moving from a post spawn pattern to their early summer pattern and most have strapped on the feed bag. Many of the fish being caught are skinny females starting to build up after the spawn. People are finding many different presentations that work, but many are struggling to find the larger females that are needed to win the tournament. For one the first times in a while, small mouths did not completely rule the top three places. Also of note for this tournament, there was an off limits area above the I-39 bridge.

The team of Brandon Clemons and Guy Thistle both from Lodi claimed top honors today with a nice bag of 7 small mouths that they caught up on the river. They caught their fish in shallow water by throwing a variety of baits, including tubes and spinner baits. Their weight came in at 19 pounds and 5 ounces to cash a check for $1000. Congratulations guys.

The second place team of Dan and Martin Sickenberger, from Poynette and Deforest respectively. The Sickenbergers also had a seven fish limit, but they had a mixed bag of fish, including the big bass for the tournament. That fish weighed in at 4 pounds 8 ounces and it was a large mouth. That fish earned them an extra $260. They also employed a variety of baits to catch their fish including crank baits and spinner baits. Their bag of fish came in at 17 pounds and 14 ounces.

Third place went to Kevin Fassbind and Brady Farrell of Cottage Grove and Fort Atkinson respectively. These two had a mixed bag of fish for the tournament and fished both the river and the lake. They were throwing a combination of tube baits and Brovarney Swim Jigs. They were fishing in water that was less than 2 feet deep for the tournament. They would like to thank their sponsors: Brovarney Baits, Ranger Boats, Evinrude and Mike’s Prop Shop for their support.

4 Lakes Bassmasters would like to thank all that participated and their sponsors: Beck’s on the Water, Windsor Roofing and Construction LLC, Mike’s Prop Shop, Dorn Hardware and Insty-Prints.
