Wins Thursday’s
Child Event
Lake Wisconsin, August 4th, 2007: by Darin Roddick-Small
Thursday’s
Child Organization Multi-Boat Team Event on
Lake
Wisconsin
Conditions:
Air Temperature: 78 degrees
Water Temperature: 80 degrees
Water Clarity: Cloudy
Skies: Cloudy with rain in the afternoon
Wind: light from the S/SW
This event is held on a yearly basis and it launches out of Beck’s on
the Water. This year there were close to 80 boats fishing on 5 boat
teams to help raise money for the Thursday’s Child Organization. This
charity event has been put on by the Bayview Bassmasters club for many
years now and is a favorite for many of the anglers that fish it. This
was my second year fishing this event and it has quickly become one of
my favorite events to fish as well.
The
conditions for this event made for some interesting fishing this year.
The temperatures feel after being in the low 90’s all week and topped
out at around 80 degrees on this day. That mixed in with the steady
rains that moved in around 11:30 made for some less than desirable
fishing conditions. All in all though it was a great event that was well
run and served up some great food and comradely for the families and
friends of the competitors after the weigh in.
The
team that was sponsored by Ryan Funeral Home, Mazanet Marine, Curran
Financial Services and U Need Em Landscape ended up taking first place
this year. This team is comprise of some of the more well know fisherman
that fish this lake and the majority of these guys are the “River
Rats” that chase the smallies up the Wisconsin River. They had a great
day on the water resulting in their names being added to the overall
team trophy this year. Congratulations guys on your first place finish.
The
second place team was that of H&H Industries. This team was anchored
by three good limits of fish that helped to put them in second place on
the leader board. This team was comprised of a couple of the well know
players as well. Half of their team ran up the river while a couple of
their boats stayed on the lake to catch their bags.
The
Dairyland
Diesel
School
sponsored the third place team. This team fished mostly on the lake and
put together a bag that was good enough to net them third place trophies
for their efforts.
On
an individual team note, the duo of Joe and Sherry Shaw came in with the
largest six fish limit. They brought 19.34 pounds to the scales made up
of both large and small mouth bass. The team said they fished both the
river and the lake for their fish. Congratulations on your efforts
today.
The
next best individual team was that of Darin Roddick-Small and Mike
Raether. They had 16.42 pounds on the day of large mouths. They stayed
on the lake to get their fish. Big bass of the day went to Joe Olstadt
and Gudz Hanrahan they pulled a 4.94 pound largemouth to the scales.
Great job guys.
All
in all, it was a great day of fishing for an even better cause. The real
winner here was the children associated with the Thursday’s Child
organization. Thanks again to Bayview Bassmasters for putting on this
event and for all of the fine companies that helped to sponsor these
teams.
