Madison Bass Fall Brawl

Dan and Marty Sickenberger win!
Lake Wisconsin, October 7 2007, by Darin Roddick-Small

Conditions:
Air Temperature: 84 degrees
Skies: Partly Sunny
Winds: S/SW 5-10
Water Temperature: 70 degrees
Water Clarity: Stained, Muddy on the River

On a day that was unseasonably warm, 41 teams left Beck’s to chase after large and small mouth bass on Lake Wisconsin during the 5th annual Madison Bass Fall Brawl, which benefited the Madison Bass Junior fishing team. With the river rising and the water muddy, many anglers went up the river to chase small mouths and others choosing to stay down on the lake to fish stable water and large mouth bass.

First place on this day would go to the team of Dan and Marty Sickenberger, of Poynette and Deforest, Wisconsin respectively. This duo went up the river to chase after the large small mouth bass this fishery has to offer. While up there, they fished a combination of jigs and a rattlin gladiator swim bait made by A.B.T. lure company out of California in a shad pattern to catch their fish. These two were fishing in 5-10 feet of water today to catch their fish. The team finished with 18.09 pounds on six fish to earn the $800 top prize. The Sickenbergers also brought in the big bass of t he day with a 4.22 pound small mouth bass. Congratulations on the great day of fishing guys.

Second place would go to the team of Darin Roddick-Small, FutureBass Pro Staffer and Frank Ungaro, both from Glen Ellyn , IL . This team stayed on the lake all day to pattern large mouth bass. This team work a combination of docks and wood in water depths from 2-10 feet of water to catch their fish. These two caught all of their fish on Venom Lures plastics. They used Venom Dream Craws and salt series tubes. Their 15.42 pound bag of fish was anchored by a 3.62 pound large mouth that fell to a Dream Craw with 45 minutes left to fish. Darin would like to thank his sponsors, Venom Lures, Brovarney Baits and FUTUREBASS for their support.

The team of Tom Herdon and Greg Raith, from Oregon and Appleton , WI respectively, captured third place. These two also stayed on the lake and fished senkos in 1-5 feet of water to catch their fish. I want to congratulate them on their fine finish in this event.

All in all it was a great day to be on the water and from what I heard all the contestants had a great time. The Madison Bass club would like to remind everyone of the Spring Fling that will take place the last weekend in April next year. Thanks again go out to the Junior Bass club for helping out with this event. The proceeds of this event are going to help them buy shirts and cover other tournament expenses throughout the year. Madison Bass would also like to thank their sponsors for the event Hometown Drywall and Beck’s on the water for their continued support. Hope to see you again next year.
