The Dream of A Lifetime - - - How many of us “experienced” fishermen spend our
days dreaming about fishing in the BassMaster Classic? For two young Minnesota fisherman, that dream has become a
reality at the junior level. Adam
Jorgensen from Fairmont, Minnesota and Don Brennhofer from Belle
Plaine, Minnesota are two young men who have achieved the junior
anglers ultimate dream. During
February, Don and Adam participated in the 2006 Junior BassMaster
World Championship in Leesburg, Florida.
To qualify for the event both young anglers had to
finish first in the Junior State Championship within their specific
age groups. FutureBass
had the opportunity to speak with Adam and Don and to get feedback on
their experience and what steps they had to take to achieve the
“dream of a lifetime.” Adam Jorgenson participated in the eleven to fourteen, age
group. He finished fifteenth at the prestigious event. Adam is a
member of the junior club of the Basseekers and won his classic berth
on Prior Lake, Minnesota. Adam had a
lot of fun at the Junior Championship and will always remember the
experience. The angler selected to fish with Adam was Pro Bass
Fisherman Scott Rook. Adam
enjoys many styles of fishing but his favorite is. “Fishing plastic
worms and spinner baits.” Says Adam.
What are Adam’s goals for 2006? “Fish with the junior club of the Basseekers once again in
2006 and to clinch a second victory in the State Championship.”
This would ultimately lead to another trip to the Junior
BassMaster World Championship for Adam. When asked
who Adams greatest influence or hero has been to date. “Scott
Rook” he responded. “Scott taught me a lot during the championship
and was a great guy to learn from.”
Don Brennhofer participated in the fifteen thru eighteen, age group. He finished 13th at the 2006 Championship in Leesburg, Florida. Don is a member of the, Jr. Gopher BassMasters club, and took first place in the Minnesota state championship.
Don also had the experience of a lifetime at the
Championship, and stated. “The tournament directors made all the
participants feel like the tournament was really a big deal”.
It was a big deal as only the top youths were present from each
state and respective age groups.
“I felt very important and enjoyed my first Championship
visit.” Dons’
Pro Angler for the tournament was the legendary Rick Clunn.
How lucky can a youngster get? When asked what
his favorite fishing technique was, Don stated. “Texas rigging worms
and creatures. Jigs are a
close second.” Some of
his fishing goals are to join the Gopher BassMasters club once he
meets the age requirements. “I
hope to fish my way to the BassMaster Classic through the
federation,” Says the young angler. A hefty goal but he is
definitely on the right track and we may very well see Don at the
Classic in the future. When asked
who Don’s greatest influence or hero has been to date. “My uncle
Art.” He stated “Art took the time to introduce me to the sport of
bass fishing and continues to provide guidance and advice as
needed”. What GREAT accomplishments these two young men achieved. The future of our sport depends not only on these young people but also on our ability as sport fisherman to provide guidance and to inspire. Take a youth fishing anytime you get a chance, the reward can be more gratifying than any tournament win. Adam and Don....... Keep up the good work guys! |
