The Bump-N-Run series of baits are designed to “HUNT FOR STRUCTURE” allowing your lure to bang into or run under structure AND GO WHERE NO LURE HAS GONE BEFORE! These lures will penetrate spots and areas where other lures never even thought of going! You will stay in the strike zone longer and fish structure in ways every angler thought was impossible. The Bump-N-Run Series of baits takes structure fishing to a new level. By just twisting the bill to the left or right, your bait can attack whatever structure is nearby. Cast along a floating dock and watch the lure go up and under or bang every dock post on one single retrieve. These baits allow every angler to cast along a piece of structure and bang it without having the perfect cast or perfect boat control. These lures hunt for structure as they swim along, under and bang creating those amazing REACTION STRIKES!

Recently I had the pleasure of receiving one of Uncle Josh’s new Bump and Run lures in the mail.  On my last fishing trip I took the new lure with me and ran it through what I would consider a pretty tough try-out.

I’ll break this review down into several categories:

1.       Innovation:

Uncle Josh has really come up with a unique lure with the new Bump and Run.  The head of the bait can swivel 360 degrees and has a small bill attached to the head, similar to that of a crank-bait.  On the head there are lines printed on the head and body portion of the bait to allow the angler to rotate the head to incite different actions out of the bait.  When the bill of the bait is in the upright position (opposite of the hook-point), and then rotated left, the bait will track off to the left, and when rotated to the right, the bait runs to the right.  This was very effective in allowing a fisherman to approach targets from different angles.  If the bill is left in the “center” position, the bait has a very tantalizing action, similar to some of the vibrating jigs available today, but a considerably more subtle.  When the “bill” of the bait is rotated downward (to the same side of the bait as the hook point) the bait works very similarly to that of a swim jig. The “bill” can be rotated to the left or right when in this configuration as well, and the bait will track left or right accordingly.

On this feature alone, I must say Uncle Josh has created a very unique lure.

2.       Components:

When I first received the lure I gave it fairly thorough inspection, and recognized that Uncle Josh has used quality components in the construction of the lure.  The hook was very sharp, and the skirt was made of high quality silicone material.

3.       Function:

It took a while for me to find the proper rate of retrieve needed to get the desired action out of the bait.  With the bill in the upright center position, it required a slow rate of retrieve and the occasional rod twitch to get the bait to run properly.  With the head positioned to the left and right, the bait ran well in both directions.  I fished the bait around logs, flooded bushes and rip-rap, and in a short period of time had gotten several strikes with the bump and run lure.

Summary:

Uncle Josh has definitely created a very interesting lure, it’s uses are potentially boundless.  I was able to run the lure left and right, past targets from different angles and provoked strikes with the bait during my test period.  There is definitely some thinking that went into the creation of this bait.  It has a few quirks that will require some use to fully understand it’s potential, but overall, this bait piqued my interest.

The Bump N Run Swimming Jig and Buzzbait are very unique lures and are lures that can be added to an angler’s arsenal to catch bass in hard to get locations.  The situations in which I found these baits to shine were:

·         As a co-angler you don’t always have the luxury of having the prime angle to make a cast into a fish holding area.  The Uncle Josh Swim Jig is a great lure that can be adjusted so that after your cast it will run into the strike zone you are trying to achieve.

·         Sometimes one of the best ways to trigger a bass into biting is to have your buzzbait run and bump into the cover.  Well the Bump N Run can be adjusted to do just this on every cast.

This series of baits from Uncle Josh is just another option for an angler to look at when putting together a plan of how to attack the bass.

Uncle Josh Bump N Run Spinnerbait

When I first received this spinnerbait in the mail I have to admit I was skeptical. A spinnerbait that also performs as a crankbait? It wasn't till I tied it on and started making some casts with it that I became a believer it bumps and ricochets off cover better than any spinnerbait I've ever thrown. Made with quality spinnerbait components the main feature of this bait is the crankbait lip that is attached to the head of the spinnerbait perfect for bumping cover. The head also is adjustable so you can bump the cover to the left or the right. Though it works very well in weeds it really shines around rock and wood, it bangs the cover so violently the fish have to eat it. River guys and ledge fisherman will love the action they get out of this bait. Uncle Josh really set a new standard on this design, the action is very suitable to it's name, Bump N Run!

Uncle Josh Bump & Run Spinner Bait.

Test Location Lake Conroe Texas. Lake Conroe is a highly developed lake just north of Houston Texas. The south half of the lake is surrounded by retaining walls and boat docks. Making it a perfect lake to test the New Bump & Run series of bait form Uncle Josh.
After working on of my favorite spots with a rock jig and a crank bait and catching a few fish I decided now was the time to give the Bump and Run Spinner bait a try. After making a few cast and learning how to tweak the bait I was able to Bump in the rock pile and retaining wall from different angles producing 6 more strikes that I would have not gotten from a traditional bait. Then it was time to hit some docks. Using the pre set lines on the bait to change the run angle I was quickly able to swim the bait far under the docks from both sides. Getting a spinner bait were no other reaction bait could get quickly producing 2 more fish.

Day in review: I feel this bait defiantly added more strikes then I would have not gotten with a traditional lure. I can't wait to try the other baits in the Bump & Run Series!
